Traffic: One Of My Procedures

We covered StumbleUpon as a paid source of traffic in a prior issue.

I cautioned that it should only be used for very general interest sites.

In this issue, I want to talk about getting “free” traffic from StumbleUpon. It can be used for almost any kind of site, but I especially recommend it for your blog.

You do have a blog; don’t you? Before I give you my procedure for getting “free” traffic from StumbleUpon, let me caution you about “free” traffic… and then assure you that the cautions don’t apply to StumbleUpon… at least in my experience.

First of all… there is no such thing as “free” traffic.

You have to invest either money, time or both for every source of traffic in existence.

Time is money. In your business, you should be able to convert from time to money in a simple equation. Just identify the human resources required to perform the procedure and identify how much you pay them. Then identify how long the procedure takes to perform on average.

Be sure to perform that calculation EVERY time you consider using “free” traffic. Make sure you know how much it actually costs.

In this case, the cost is extremely tiny if you have an intern program.

You do have an intern program; right?

I divide my intern program into two groups. I call them level 1 and level 2. The level 1 people really are almost free to me. They are still proving themselves to become a level 2 intern or possibly an employee. I have no interaction with them. I have no manager even. The are completely automated.

The only cost is the cost of the domain, hosting and Aweber fees to handle the autoresponder that gives them tasks to perform.

None of those fixed costs increase when adding the following procedure, so my effective cost really is zero.

There are some limitations to the types of procedures that level 1 interns are given.

One of those limitations is that those procedures are not able to require passwords.

Level 1 interns are not given any passwords to any of my sites, vendor services or anything else. They are given no passwords whatsoever.

This means that I can literally accept anyone as a level 1 intern. I don’t even need to know who they are or what country they live in.

A convicted felon for financial crimes living in Nigeria and still in jail is qualified to be a level 1 intern for me.

The procedure I’m going to share with you to get traffic from StumbleUpon is a procedure I have in my level 1 intern autoresponder program.

I encourage you to do the same. Spend 10 minutes typing it in from this newsletter into your Aweber autoresponder for your interns and you’ll automatically get traffic from StumbeUpon from that moment on.

How much traffic? I decided to include this article in the newsletter because that number is exciting.

On my blog, my number 1 source of traffic is type-in traffic. They might actually be clicking through from email announcements I send,

clicking on a link in their favorites or really might be typing it in.

All I know is that there is no “referrer” associated with most of my blog traffic.

My #2 source of traffic on my blog is Google. No surprises there.

My #3 source of traffic on my blog is StumbleUpon. I do not pay for traffic to my blog from StumbleUpon. I only did that temporarily for InfoProdCreation.com as reported in the prior issue issue.

I don’t personally do anything with StumbleUpon. I don’t even have their toolbar installed.

I have no procedures other than the one I’m going to share with you that has anything to do with with StumbleUpon.

That means, the third largest source of traffic to my blog is completely and exclusively from the procedure I’m going to give you.

Without further intro… here is that procedure:

— BEGIN —

Hi {!firstname_fix},

Go to StumbleUpon.com and install the toolbar.

Then click on the “Stumble” button several times and vote on the sites you see by using the “Thumbs Up” and “Thumbs Down” button as appropriate.

Then go to any of the following sites and do the same thing (fill in the form if it says you discovered the site):

Glyphius.com

Nemeas.com

Hermusa.com

Munius.com

TestiVar.com

RaSof.com

DiegoNorte.com/blog/

DiegoNorte.com

Repeat until you have spent 3 hours rating sites. There is no need to report your results today.

— END —

That simple procedure included in my level 1 intern program results in the third largest source of traffic for my blog.

As you can see, my blog is only even mentioned as a portion of the procedure.

It also delivers some traffic to the sales pages. However, that traffic isn’t as significant.

Why not? Mostly because others with the StumbleUpon bar hate sales pages. Some may buy, but most won’t. The most that don’t… will thumbs down the sales page.

So, often the sales pages only get thumbs up from my interns.

However, the blog does get thumbs up from many nonintern StumbleUponers. Blogs are loved in StumbleUponland just like they are loved almost everywhere else.

The procedure can probably even be improved by having interns add and/or vote up any new blog entries.

That could backfire and result in the whole domain being banned from StumbleUpon though… so do that at your own risk.

If you want to get my entire collection of procedures used to run my entire business (along with all of the videos and software used), you can do that here:

The program provides my entire business system for use as a head start for your own business. Every procedure is proven to be profitable and is delivered in the test environment used on our own site so that you can continue to optimize it to be even more profitable.

Five free ways to generate traffic

5 Free Techniques for Generating Website Traffic

If there is one absolute rule for making money from your website it’s that you need visitors or “traffic” as it is commonly called. If hardly anyone visits your site the chances of it generating an income are slim to none.

Many people think that they need to spend a lot of money to generate a steady stream of website traffic. This is not true at all. Yes, there are plenty of ways to pay for traffic but there are also a lot of free traffic techniques that work very well.

Here are 5 free techniques for generating traffic to your website:

1) Article Marketing

There are countless article directories, ezines, and websites on the internet that need a constant supply of content so they are willing to accept article submissions from others. This is a great opportunity for you to create free website traffic by writing and submitting articles.

All you have to do is write articles that are themed along with the niche of your site. Write on topics that you have some knowledge on so that when people read your articles, they can see your expertise on the subject and will want visit your site for more information. Your articles should be well written, informative, and useful. The higher the quality, the better your chances of gaining traffic and making money.

At the end of each article include an “about the author” box with a little information about you or your business and a link to your website. This is how you will get traffic from the article.

2) Link Exchanges

This technique has been proven for years as a great free traffic method. Exchanging links isn’t nearly as effective as it once was but it’s still more than worth doing. Rarely will you ever see a site where there is no links other sites. Many webmasters are willing to exchange links with one another so that they can provide more options for their visitors and get traffic from the other site. After a few months of link exchanges you will begin to notice the steady increase traffic coming to your site from other sites.

Link exchanges also boost your rankings in the search engines such as Google or Yahoo. It’s well known that search engines rank websites higher that have a large amount of inbound links. With a good ranking position in the search engines, you will generate more free traffic to your website than with virtually any other method.

One thing you need to make sure of before you exchange links with any site is that it’s a quality site and at least somewhat related to yours. Exchanging with just any old site can do more harm than help to your site.

3) Traffic Exchanges

I’m not a big advocate of traffic exchanges because I haven’t ever had great results considering the time you have to put in. However, some people do well with traffic exchanges and they are free.

Basically what you do with these is view another person’s website in exchange for a view of yours by somebody. You both benefit from each others efforts to generate free website traffic. The other sites visitors can visit your pages and see your site as well as theirs. The conversion rates aren’t usually very high but if you can get enough free traffic from this method then it may be worth trying.

4) Build a List

This can be one of the most difficult free traffic techniques but it’s certainly possible to do and will reward you many times over for your hard work. Offering a free ebook, a free report, or a free informative newsletter are a few of the best ways to build a list of subscribers. Plus, there are many people who are willing to provide free content for your newsletter as long as they can get their name in it. Be sure to provide valuable information for your subscribers and as your list grows you will be able to make money from sending them an affiliate promotion every once in a while.

4) Internet Marketing and Online Business Forums

This really only requires your time and no money at all. You just share your knowledge and expertise in online business forums, with a link to your website in your signature, and you can get a lot of free traffic over time.
